India is home to several indigenous cow breeds known for their adaptability and productivity. Notable breeds include Gir, known for high milk yield; Sahiwal, recognized for its resistance to diseases; and Red Sindhi, famous for its heat tolerance and good milk production.

The Gir breed, originating from Gujarat, is known for its high milk yield, hardiness, and disease resistance. They have distinctive curved horns, a hump, and a reddish-brown coat with white patches.

The Sahiwal breed, native to Punjab, is renowned for its exceptional milk production and resistance to heat and diseases. They have a reddish-brown coat and are often used in crossbreeding programs to enhance the productivity of other breeds.

• • The Murrah buffalo, originating from Haryana and Punjab, is renowned for its high milk yield and high butterfat content. They are large, have a jet-black coat, and distinctive tightly curled horns.

The Surti breed, from Gujarat, is known for its moderate milk production and adaptability to various climates. They have a distinct light to dark gray color and moderately curved horns.
